Day at the Vic West Corn Roast
Description
What a great day today.
Vic West (a small community situated in Victoria Proper) celebrated a Corn Roast and the anniversary of Spiral Café. I have lived in this community for 12 years . Over the past 3 years I have been involved with Vic Wests group of artists and annual studio tours. The Vic West Artist studio tour is called the Vic West Art Quest. (VWAQ)
The VWAQ Artists decided to put up a booth and advertise their presence in the neighborhood. We decided to have a mini art quest designed like scavenger hunt. 8 of us participated. The purpose of the game was to promote our art, let people know that we exist in the community, and to recruit other Vic West artists. People searched for the 12 hidden pieces, stamped their cards at each site, returned to the tent and put their name in for a draw. (Three of us donated small pieces for the prizes. My donations consisted of a friendship gourd pin and a friendship ornament)
The pieces of our work were hidden in and around in the block radius that surrounded the main hub of the corn roast, Spiral Café and a bus stop on Craigflower. contributed 3 pieces for the hunt – a small gourd pin (red, black and white mask), a ‘gourds of wisdom’ ornament (Play) and a little vase (red and brown carved design). 2 of the pieces were hidden in the playground,-one on the trunk of a tree.
and one on a fence,
and the third piece was hidden in a nook of a tree across the street.
The Corn Roast went from 12:00 to 4:00 and was well attended. Many people participated in the Mini Quest Scavenger hunt and we have 6 new artists who are interested in participating in our studio tour this year.
